The house was designed keeping 4 ideas in mind.
1. Calming: Bombay is claustrophobic and just too in your face with extensive sound and visual pollution (billboards). We wanted home to be it’s opposite – low on visual impact, high on natural light and silent.
2. Functional: Each space in the house is purpose designed for activities that we spend most of our time doing – long conversations with friends and family, reading books, working on laptops, relaxing, cooking and sharing meals.
3. Efficient: As a working couple with a 2-year-old, when at home, we want to spend most of our time with our child instead of cleaning and organizing the house. The house is designed for efficiency in day to day housekeeping ops.
4. Indic: The furniture, art and wall hangings are intricately designed, earthy pieces.
Also tried maintaining the Wabi Sabi of the place by leaving behind few cracks in the flooring.
The living room is primarily designed as a space to host friends and family for long conversations. There are two sofas that face each other while conversing.
With Netflix, Youtube and Amazon Prime, TV is no more a need in modern households. Hence, we completely did away with the TV.
We created a small, near sound proof balcony within the hall. This is the space where one spend time with oneself reading and staring outside the window.
The bedrooms are designed to be spacious and full of natural light. The storage space is ideal for a professional, nuclear family of 2 and 1-2 kids.
The washrooms have Moroccan tiles with clear, well-defined dry and wet areas.
